Distance Learning is intended for students living in countries where a face to face course is unavailable. See Contact information for non-UK Students for information on where face to face courses are being held.
The Business Awareness Distance Learning Module has been designed to help those joining the Actuarial Profession to understand:
This course involves students taking part in a 10-day online business game, and submitting completed exercises. Students who undertake the module will be required to do pre-course study, and a post-course online test provided by Imparta.
What does the Business Awareness Module cover?
The module ranges over the following business awareness topics:
The main content of the module is:
Who must take the Business Awareness Distance Learning Module and when?
In principle, students need not take the Business Awareness Distance Learning Module until they are close to qualification as an Associate or Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries or Institute of Actuaries, unless the actuarial society in the country where you work requires you to take it earlier.
This is different to the situation for UK based students who are expected to take the Module within 18 months of joining The Actuarial Profession, assuming they have relevant work experience.
Who can take the Business Awareness Distance Learning module?
The distance learning module has been provided for those students for whom it is not feasible to attend a face to face course. Face to Face courses are held in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa and students should attend these whenever possible. Courses are also held in India but we do not recognise these as an equivalent standard to our own and therefore students cannot gain an exemption from us after passing the Indian course.
How frequently is the Business Awareness Distance Learning module run?
Currently the module is offered twice yearly in February/March and July/August, however as demand for the course grows we would envisage making further courses available. The decision to run any course will depend upon sufficient students registering for the module and the Profession reserves the right to cancel a course should insufficient numbers apply.
