Group Consultatif Chairman's report

The Chairman of the Groupe Consultatif has issued the Chairman’s report to members associations. This covers the Groupe Consultatif’s recent activities and actions and what next steps are. The report contains updates on the following:

  • The Groupe’s strategy and business plans;
  • The current draft on the “Actuarial Function Report under Directive 2009/138/EC.” going through consultation (deadline 1 March, 2013);
  • New Members of the Groupe;
  • New Officers;
  • The way forward for the Consumer Protection Task Force;
  • Activities on the review of the IORP Directive and what the next steps are
  • A forthcoming survey on available numbers of actuaries in Europe
  • The actions and objectives of the newly established Sub-group on Social Security
  • Actions regarding the Market Consistency Paper
  • Publication of a brochure on “Solvency II: Raising the Bar on Insurance Technical Expertise” and the preparation of additional papers on the added value of the expertise of the actuary;
  • Invitation to Member Associations to submit written summaries on developments in Solvency II
  • Invitation to Member Associations to submit comments on how proportionality might be implemented
  • Submissions and planned submissions by the Investment and Financial Risk Committee on papers to the EU, such as “Regulation of Indices”; EU Green Paper on Long-Term Investments”; “Basel II and Solvency II”, as well as a questionnaire on the Market Consistency Web Portal;
  • Work and forward steps on the Code of Conduct;
  • Public Affairs and Communications: EU Information campaigns; significantly expanding relationships in the Commission, the European Parliament, EU stakeholders, and many other activities and actions.

Joint Groupe Consultatif/IAA Education Seminar: Educating actuarial professionals for the future

In conjuction with the IAA meetings in The Hague in May, there will be a joint Groupe Consultatif/IAA Education Seminar on the theme Educating actuarial professionals for the future.  In particular, the seminar will be looking at:

  • creating access to actuarial education;
  • quality of education: equipping future actuarial professionals.
