The IFoA has a strategic objective to speak up on matters relevant to the public interest and from a consumer perspective, the two areas of pensions and long-term care are inter-linked. The IFoA is one of the few bodies that has membership expertise in both areas and can think about these two topics holistically. Therefore, the Public Affairs and Consultation Committee (PACC) of the IFoA has sought to increase the profession's involvement in these key strategic areas and has set up the Pensions and LTC Working Party.

The key focus of the Steering Group of Pensions and LTC Working Party is to ensure that the total output from the working party meets the strategic objectives of PACC and thereby, further the profession's relationship with the relevant parties such as Department of Health, and highlight the value actuaries can add. The Steering Group role is an overarching one, to develop the strategy and to provide oversight and have responsibility for the process and progress of all research groups.
