Lord Mayor's Show, lunch and fireworks - Invitation from the Worshipful Company of Actuaries
The Worshipful Company of Actuaries (WCA) is once again inviting members of the profession, and their friends and families, to view the Lord Mayor’s Show - at almost 800 years, the oldest, longest and most popular procession in the world - on Saturday, 9th November, and/or to have lunch followed by viewing the fireworks on the Thames early that evening.
This is a special year for the WCA with Adrian Waddingham, a past Master of the WCA, holding the significant position in the City of London of Sheriff. He will ride in one of the official carriages. The Master, Wardens and Clerk of the WCA will be in another carriage, and there will be a WCA float in the procession.
Viewing the procession
The procession can be viewed from the streets, but the WCA will have a limited number of places available in the offices of Barnett Waddingham and the NAPF at 138 Cheapside, which overlook the procession route and provide an excellent view. You should arrive by 10.30 am for the procession which should be seen from around 10.45 until 11.45 am. Tea/coffee will be provided. Capacity is limited for the WCA so please book early.
Lunch and fireworks
The WCA has booked the Doggett’s Bar solely for its use at Doggett's Coat and Badge next to Blackfriars Bridge on the South Bank to allow a convivial lunch and to facilitate viewing of the fireworks. Members will meet there at 14.30 for pre-lunch drinks and a two course lunch around 15.00, price £20 per head with drinks for own account. The fireworks at 17.00 hours will be launched by the new Lord Mayor, normally from a barge moored on the river between Blackfriars and Waterloo Bridges. Capacity is limited to 80 people, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
After the procession and before the lunch, families may like to visit the funfair in Paternoster Square where there are various rides and stalls to suit all ages. Also, there are free guided City Walks starting from St. Paul’s tube station.
