NED MIG Panel Discussion: Diversity in the Boardroom
Two years have passed since the UK government welcomed the ‘Women on Boards’ report from Lord Davies.
Books from Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook and Professor Alison Wolf have attracted publicity in recent months, while the latest Cranfield Female FTSE Board report suggested that improving diversity had slowed right down in Britain’s leading companies. Boardroom diversity surely does embrace gender diversity, but has the focus on still low proportions of female directors obscured the important message to firms that diversity in all its forms adds to business value.
This meeting will take a broad look at the different dimensions of diversity, including diversity of culture; professional training; experience; geography etc, and how these combined with gender diversity can make for more effective direction and governance of a board.
Our distinguished panel of speakers include:
Caroline Waters, Vice-chair of Equality and Human Rights Commission and founder of CW Consulting (Chair)
Iain Anderson, Head of PR, Cicero Consulting
Evelyn Bourke, Finance Director of Bupa Group and member of the board of Opportunity Now
Patrick O’Sullivan, Chairman, Old Mutual
Lena Samuels, member of the board at University Hospital Southampton Trust
This event is organised by the Non-Executive Directors’ Member Interest Group (NEDs MIG). NEDs MIG would like to thank Old Mutual for sponsoring the networking element of this event.
