Open Forum: The Risk-Free Rate: Politics, Economics and Investment

15 October 2013 17:00 to 19:00

Registration: 17.00 to 17.30

Programme: 17.30 to 19.00

Why attend?

This presentation explores a number of factors influencing the dynamics of the risk-free curve.

The risk-free curve has important implications for the balance sheets of insurers. Understanding the factors to impact the curve should form part of any sound risk management strategy.

The presentation doesn’t attempt to answer the question of ‘what is the risk-free rate’ but explores a number of factors that drive the rate curve including: non-insurance regulation, politics and the economic environment.

Who should attend?

The presentation was originally developed for a Life Insurance audience but is relevant for other actuaries working in ALM, investment and capital management functions who have interest in the application of the risk-free curve.

It is mainly UK focussed but does bring in some examples from continental Europe.

A basic level of ALM knowledge will be assumed.
