Sessional Research Working Paper: Long Term Care – a Review of Global Funding Models

22 October 2012 17:00 to 20:00

Watch a recording of this sessional and gain CPD.

As work under development, this session will allow Sue Elliott, Sophie Golds, Ian Sissons and Hamish Wilson to discuss their work to date on alternative long-term care (LTC) funding models and options.  The speakers would like to share with the audience their analysis of six global models and the potential applications to the UK, and seek input for further development.  The current working paper provides a demographic overview for each of the six countries to illustrate the increasing global demand for LTC and the funding thereof which is becoming a global critical issue.  It examines the approaches each country has taken to address the funding issue with varying degrees of public/private co-operation and partnerships.  The authors hope that the lessons learned from these other markets will assist the UK as they try to come to grips with their growing social care funding issue.  As part of this session, the authors are keen to present this as a work in progress and seek the input of the audience to help shape the final published paper.

Please ensure you book your place to avoid disappointment

16:30- 17:00:  An opportunity to informally meet the authors and ask a question prior to the presentation

17:30-19:00: Presentation

Please note, that as a result of member feedback, we will be trialling a new ‘enhanced networking initiative’ at this sessional research meeting.

The purpose of this initiative is to improve integration and networking among members, with particular focus on making those who are newly qualified or new to events, feel encouraged to approach more experienced members and become integrated into the actuarial community.

At each meeting, members who have particular experience in the topic area or those who are happy to be approached by new members and share their experience will be asked to wear a yellow ribbon on their name badge.

We would invite all those members who are happy to wear a yellow ribbon on their name badge to signal that they encourage any member to approach them and ask questions about the sessional meeting, chat or even just to introduce themselves to get in touch with Georgina Jenkins
