Speaker:  Professor Ian Marsh

Description:

Professor Ian Marsh will cover the reasons countries get themselves into currency crises, the role of speculators in crises and regulatory responses. This talk will focus on current "live" events and a view of the future.

About the speaker:

Ian has worked in the City of London as an international banker and financial market economist, for the IMF, and in academia. He has a PhD from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow where he also began his academic career. He has been at Cass since 1998 but took a leave of absence to work at the Bank of England between June 2001 and September 2003, where he managed a research team focusing on capital market issues. He now directs the Cass PhD programmes in finance and actuarial science. His research interests are credit risk transfer market and the market for foreign exchange, and has recent papers on why short sales bans are a bad idea, why Tobin taxes don't work and why credit default swap markets are inefficient.
