A World Full of Data: Statistics Opportunities Across A-level Subjects
The IFoA is delighted to host the launch event of a new research report on the opportunities for statistics teaching and learning across a wide range of A-level subjects.
Funded by the IFoA and in partnership with the Royal Statistical Society, the report provides a comprehensive overview of the important role which statistics can and needs to play in the majority of subjects at A-level, both to support the learning and teaching in those subjects at that level, but also to adequately prepare students for higher education in those subjects. The evidence from this research tells us what is required in the future development of the statistics provision by bridging the gap between secondary and higher education, rather than what is currently provided.
The report’s author, Roger Porkess, will provide an overview of the research findings. This will be followed by a panel discussion to consider implications for policy makers, curriculum bodies, teachers and schools. As well as being of general interest to many of our members, the event and research report may be of particular interest to actuaries who are involved in education.
