Plenary 2: The role of today's actuary |
| |
Actuaries have traditionally played a valuable role in the insurance industry, particularly in areas such as reserving, pricing and capital and the skill set they have become known for plays naturally to this (e.g, quantitative, analytical, technical).
As the industry and regulation of the profession develops how can actuaries most effectively apply their traditional quantitative technical skills. What new objective analytical skills are required to take up new opportunities and face challenges?
How can this all be achieved - with a growing need to communicate outside the profession?
Speaker: Julian Adams, Executive Director for Insurance at the PRA

Plenary 3: A Makeover for Mortality |
| |
Can we make the risk or death more friendly? Not, as an old statistical joke reminds us, by reducing it from one. But can we improve how we explain it to non-specialists? Michael will reveal tricks and ideas, including graphical animation, to make fatal risk - from Mid Staffs hospital to too many bacon butties - easier to see and understand.
