Steve Allan is a Director in Towers Watson’s International Consulting Group and the Practice Leader for Towers Watson’s M&A team in Europe. He has 20 years experience working with multinational companies, conducting cross-border deals and supporting clients in implementing new post-transaction structures globally.
Working within Towers Watson’s global M&A practice, Steve serves as the lead global project manager on complex multi-country M&A due diligence and post-merger integration exercises. Steve combines his deep transaction experience and consulting expertise with his role in accessing relevant country-specific and topic-specific specialists throughout Towers Watson to ensure appropriate local expertise is brought to bear and synthesized to address the specific needs of individual deals.
Steve works with large global organizations to help ensure that pension and benefit programs are designed and implemented in accordance with global business objectives and local market practices. He also works with clients to ensure that appropriate global governance arrangements are put in place for these plans, that program financing decisions are taken at the right level within the organization, and that the impact of these plans on corporate financial results are accurately reported in line with global policies in a timely manner.
During his career with Towers Watson, Steve has worked in New York and in Tokyo, and is currently based in London. Prior to joining Towers Watson in 2000 Steve spent seven years within the London actuarial consulting practice one of the big four accounting firms.
Steve is a Fellow of both the Institute of Actuaries in the U.K. and the Society of Actuaries in the U.S, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He holds a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from the University of Bristol, U.K.
Simon Grout is a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s European Insurance Practice and is based in the London Office. Since joining Oliver Wyman in 1995 Simon has built up expertise in a wide area of insurance company strategic and risk management with particular expertise in capital management, non financial risk management and Islamic insurance (Takaful).
Simon has authored a number of papers over his career including the future of the UK retail investment industry, enterprise risk management and most recently he jointly penned “Takaful- a new global insurance growth opportunity”
Simon has been involved in a variety of projects in insurance companies all over the world including Europe, Middle East, North America and AsiaHis recent experience includes:
- Quantification of the operational risk component of economic capital for global financial services companies
- Advised a JV on a multi-country Takaful entry strategy
- Provided advice to a number of global insurers on a global and multi-country Takaful proposition
- Advised an international investment bank on the set up of an insurance company to buy out UK pension liabilities
- Capital and risk management for insurance companies as part of their regulatory submissions and in use in their strategic planning cycle
- Embedded and appraisal value calculations for insurance companies worldwide to support negotiations and due diligence work in merger and acquisition work.
- Project management and planning for ALM
- Head of Actuarial Function work for insurance companies including strategy consulting, product pricing and design, risk management and statutory valuations
Simon has nearly twenty five years of insurance industry and consulting experience. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman he was a consultant in the life practice of Bacon & Woodrow for eight years. Simon graduated from St. Andrew’s University in 1987 with a first class honours degree in Mathematics and qualified four years later as an actuary.
Don Mango is Vice Chairman of Enterprise Analytics for Guy Carpenter & Company, LLC, the leading global risk and reinsurance specialist and a unit of the Marsh & McLennan Companies. Don’s team is responsible for Guy Carpenter’s global risk analytics tool suite, as well as thought leadership and advanced research in risk, reward and valuation.
Prior to joining Guy Carpenter, Don was the Director of Research and Development at GE Insurance Solutions. Prior to that he served as Chief Risk Officer for American Re-Insurance. He also gained traditional pricing and actuarial experience at Centre Solutions, Crum & Forster Insurance, and Insurance Services Office.
Don has authored numerous papers and articles on actuarial science and risk management. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a CAS Board Member, and a regular speaker at industry conferences. He is a graduate of Rice University.
Scott is a principal and leads the Zürich life actuarial practice of Milliman. He joined the firm in September 2009.
Scott has performed a wide range of actuarial consulting projects for clients in Europe (including UK), Asia, Australia and North America. He has advised some of the world’s largest insurers and reinsurers and has significant experience in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, Economic Capital (Solvency II and Swiss Solvency Test), financial reporting (IFRS and USGAAP), actuarial valuations (MCEV, EEV, TEV), and actuarial modeling.
Prior to joining Milliman, Scott worked for Ernst & Young in Zürich, leading the firm’s European Actuarial Transactions (M&A) team. He also previously worked for Deloitte in UK and Australia. He started his career with Scottish Provident, a UK-based life insurer.
Scott has written several papers and articles on various industry topics, including Solvency II and IFRS. He presents frequently at industry conferences and actuarial meetings.
Scott belongs to the Swiss Association of Actuaries as well as the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He graduated with a BSc (with honors) in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Dundee (U.K.)
