Members of the Actuarial Profession provide commercial, financial and technical advice underpinning the operation of insurance companies, pension funds and other financial institutions, helping them and the public at large to make financial sense of the future.
The profession is governed jointly by the Faculty of Actuaries in Edinburgh and the Institute of Actuaries in London, which lay down a stringent code of conduct for their members to ensure that the interests of the public are protected. They also set rigorous examinations which all new entrants must pass before becoming qualified members. Both bodies have active research committees that encourage and co-ordinate new initiatives in actuarial services.
The UK profession is a member of the Consultative Group of Associations of Actuaries in Europe and of the International Actuarial Association where its members are active in tackling global issues arising from international policies and social trends.
The Actuarial Profession welcomes contact from the media.
The Profession is available to provide expert comment to the media on a range of actuarial-related issues, including enterprise risk management, finance and investment, general insurance, health and care, life assurance, mortality, and pensions.
