GIRO was again a huge success. The themes included solvency, especially Solvency II, reserving and pricing (following the work of the ROC and GRIP teams), enterprise risk management, sex discrimination and insurance pricing, education and exams, and the development of the profession. However, with 55 different workshops the overall range was enormous. We also had several guest speakers, notably Roger Steare, the occupational pholosopher and author, who talked about 'ethicability'. Although nothing can compare with being there, al presentations and papers should be on the profession's website soon, and I urge you to look at those you missed. A range of working parties was set up for next year's GIRO, and further volunteers are being sought. This is a very good way to help your profession and to advance your own knowledge and skills in developing technical areas.
The GIRO Committee asked us to tell them whether GIRO is doing the right things. The general response was very favourable. However, it was a response, obviously, from those who where there. If you did not go because it does not do what you are looking for or because it is a bad time of the year, please let the GIRO Committee know, and let them know what would be better.
