Faculty of Actuaries announces new president

Ronnie S BowieThe Faculty of Actuaries has elected Ronnie Bowie (left) as its new president.

Mr Bowie was appointed at the Faculty�s Ordinary General Meeting in Edinburgh on 23 June 2008 and will take up his presidency with immediate effect. He takes over from Stewart Ritchie FFA, who is stepping down after serving a two-year term.

Mr Bowie became a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in 1980 and has been vice-president of the Faculty since 2005. He has also served the Faculty and the Institute as the Chairman of the Pensions Board and is a member of the Profession�s Management Board.

After joining Hymans Robertson 28 years ago, Mr Bowie is currently Senior Partner with the company. He works as Scheme Actuary and Investment Advisor to a number of large public and private schemes in Scotland and England, and represents the company on the Board and Executive Committee of Abelica Global. He is also on the Board of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice.

Mr Bowie regularly speaks at conferences and provides information and comment on relevant financial issues in the media.

He will deliver his presidential address on Monday 6 October 2008.

Notes to Editors

  1. Actuaries provide commercial, financial and prudential advice on the management of a business�s assets and liabilities, especially where long term management and planning are critical to the success of any business venture. They also advise individuals, and advise on social and public interest issues.
  2. Members of the Profession have a statutory role in the supervision of pension funds and life insurance companies. They also have a statutory role to provide actuarial opinions for managing agents at Lloyd�s.
