Online CPD. Frequently-asked questions

Who are Mentor?

Mentor was established in 2000 and provides on-line CPD and training material for a number of professions including the accountancy and law professions.

Why did the profession choose Mentor?

The CPD Committee interviewed a number of providers of on-line CPD. It decided to work with Mentor on this project for a trial period because it has a proven track record with other professional bodies such as the Law Society and ACCA.

Is it a free service or do I have to pay?

You will need to pay to download the material on the Mentor site. The prices have been set at a reasonable level and can be clearly viewed on the site before purchasing.

The profession introduced mandatory CPD so why do I have to pay to download material?

Because filming events is a costly undertaking. Both Councils agreed that the service should be on a breakeven basis. If members attend a conference or seminar they expect to pay in order for the profession to cover its costs.

Why are Institute Sessional Meetings free to download then?

Because members are not charged to attend Sessional meetings and so it would have been inappropriate to ask members for a fee to download material that others have free and easy access to.

Is the material I download via Mentor verifiable?

For a trial period it has been agreed that members can claim this as verifiable CPD. Members will need to input their Actuarial Reference Number on the Mentor site in order to download the material.

How do I access the material?

Navigate to the Mentor site at www.mentor-uk.com.

Who do I contact if something goes wrong?

In the first instance you should contact Mentor (info@mentor-uk.com). Mentor have also provided some technical assistance and responses to technical questions on their website. Go to www.mentor-uk.com and click on the heading About Mentor on the Home page, then Site Instructions. On this page there is a link to a page of FAQs. You can contact the profession via cpd_feedback@actuaries.org.uk but it is unlikely that we will be able to sort out your problem without speaking to Mentor first. However if you do encounter problems we would like to know about it and so you should inform the profession using the CPD Feedback address.
