Communities and Member Interest Groups

Member Interest Groups link together members with a common interest or focus and are designed to operate autonomously, providing their own intellectual capital. Member Interest Groups do not report (in a governance sense) to any other body within the profession, are open for all members to join and are free from bureaucracy in that they can determine their own organisation and ways of working. A Member Interest Group may choose to undertake a variety of activities, some of which may include:

  • Newsletters
  • Topical events (formal or informal)
  • On-line discussion fora
  • Social and professional networking opportunities
  • Developing research papers to stimulate debates.

A Leaflet about Member Interest Groups is available to view.

Established groups:

Groups under construction

  • Chinese Regional Society
  • Solvency II for Private Medical Insurance Products

These will shortly be posted on the website.

Proposed new groups

Various other new groups will shortly be set up, and more information on these groups will be available soon. The groups are:

  • Mergers and Acquisitions [Pensions]
  • Pensions Buyout
  • Welsh Actuarial Member Interest Group

Members are invited to express interest in any of the existing Groups and in particular the prospective new Groups. Click here for further details.

Participation in a Member Interest Group gives you the opportunity to meet (either in person, or virtually), with like-minded members to:

  • influence the profession's policy from the "bottom up";
  • strengthen opportunities for knowledge sharing;
  • engage in professional and social networking;
  • contribute to ideas to support your own development as well as those of other members.

Member Interest Groups will only be established if sufficient interest is received. Members are welcome to join all those Member Interest Groups which are of interest to them, and membership is open to all.

To express interest in any of the existing Groups please login as a member and register your interest by updating the "Your Profile" in the Transactions and personal information section. You can also express interest in the new Groups or let us know of ideas for other new Groups by e-mailing migs@actuaries.org.uk

For more information about Member Interest Groups please contact Audrey Cosens or Rachel Smith.
