About us

Founded May 1974, The Bristol Actuarial Society, aims to provide local opportunities for all members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries to meet, discuss and debate matters of professional interest. The society has approximately 700 members stretching out from Bristol to Exeter, Cardiff, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Swindon.

 

Membership of the society is free upon provision of an E-mail address. To join, please contact, Shelly Beard at membersecretary@bristolactuaries.org  

Typically, the programme of events for the year includes six talks and six social events. Meetings are generally held in Bristol but there have been meetings in other locations.

 

The society are open to joint meetings with other regional actuarial societies and with other organisations, e.g.NAPF, APL, PMI, ABI, CII, SWAPP.

Gordon Sharp, Chairman of the Continuous Mortality Investigation, will talk about the current work of the CMI, in particular covering:

• Changes to the structure and funding of the CMI
• The CMI_2012 mortality projection model, and the consultation on the future of the Model and the Library of Projections
• The SAPS investigation – latest results and the draft S2 tables
• The Life Office Mortality investigation – 2007-2011 data collection update and interim annuity results
