Guide to CPD compliance
In the terms of the CPD Scheme members records will automatically show their declaration as either Category 1 or Category 2. Any member who is no longer in paid work as defined in the CPD Scheme will be shown as “Out of Scope”.
With the exception of those members holding Practising Certificates, members must check that their CPD Category is correctly recorded on the profession’s website by 30 April immediately preceding the end of the relevant CPD year.
Application for exemption from the CPD Scheme can be made using the exemption application form and must be submitted to the cpd team at cpd_feedback@actuaries.org.uk no later than 30 April in the relevant CPD recording year.
Similarly those who will be absent from work for more than 6 consecutive months in any one reporting year will require to inform the profession of this in order to be in a position to complete a lesser amount of CPD as detailed in the CPD Scheme. Those members who are working overseas but remain fully regulated should be aware of their requirements and may be able to comply with one of the profession’s recognised schemes as listed in the CPD Scheme.
The profession reserves the right to require sight of such documentation as it deems sufficient to support any application for exemption from the Scheme or to support any claim by a member that they are not within the scope of the CPD Scheme.
Members must record in their online record details of all qualifying CPD activity. The recording year for those in category 2 ends on 30 June but the system will remain open until 31 July to allow members to update their records.
Members in Category 2 who record hours of private study as part of the CPD record must also record the learning outcome which they have achieved as a result of the study.
Members must ensure that they retain sufficient records to be able to prove their participation in the CPD events or the periods of private study listed in their records to the profession, if requested.
Failure to comply
Failure by a Fellow or Associate to comply with the CPD Scheme will result in disciplinary action being taken which may result in a finding of misconduct.
