How to gain CPD hours

Each year we offer qualified actuaries a portfolio of events from which to gain a portion of their required technical and professionalism CPD hours. In general each practice area will offer a residential conference and a number of one-day, open fora, and networking events. The number of events offered by the practice areas depends on the number of actuaries within each practice area and the amount of regulation that each practice area experiences.

Professionalism CPD

You can obtain professionalism CPD in a variety of ways.

Residential conferences and other events run by the profession will normally have an element of professionalism within them and represent one way for our members to gain CPD.

Professional skills can be construed more widely and also includes adherence to and demonstrating commitment to the principles of the Actuaries’ Code and other aspects of non-technical skills which are part and parcel of delivering a satisfactory outcome to their clients/customer.

Topics such as business skills, management, staff development and IT, all of which can be obtained in the work place, count as professionalism CPD.

Attendance at committee meetings, reading journal articles, and speaking at events also qualify for CPD and it is down to each member to determine whether it should be deemed technical or professionalism CPD.
