About usWhat is Knowledge Sharing Scotland (KSS)? KSS offers members the opportunity to host/attend small, locally run events in an informal environment, to share information and experiences with peers.
Were did the idea come from? The 2012 member survey carried out by the Scottish Board indicated that there was a demand from members for locally accessible CPD opportunities, not just in Edinburgh but across Scotland. This feedback prompted the Board, in collaboration with the Regions Leader to create a format which will allow members to host and attend a series of events across Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh, supported by local employers.
What kind of topics will be discussed at the sessions? The first 2 sessions cover “Valuing the Employer Covenant” and “Hope for the best but prepare for the worst – impact of a prolonged period of low long term interest rates on pension fund and insurance company balance sheets”. However, the nature of the programme means that subject matter can be tailored to members’ needs and additional sessions can be incorporated should the demand be sufficient. If there are any particular topics which you would like to see covered at a KSS event, please let us know. The full programme of events can be viewed below. All events are free to attend.
How can I get involved? KSS is reliant on the input of volunteers within the actuarial community in Scotland. Speakers and hosts are essential to the success of the initiative and there will be a volunteer vacancy advertised on the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries website throughout the year. If you have any further questions or suggestions, please contact the Regions Leader, Tess Joyce: tess.joyce@actuaries.org.uk
