New structure for Professionalism courses

29 November 2011

A new structure for Professionalism courses will be introduced from February 2012.

The course in Edinburgh on 1-2 December is the last one that will be held in the existing format.

From February 2012 the current 1-day Associate Course and 2-day New Fellows courses will be replaced by a choice of:

  • a 1-day face-to-face event where, in addition to other features, participants will work through mini case studies both generic and practice specific in nature; or
  • a web-based version of the case studies, which members will be able to undertake in modules.

The first face-to-face events will be held from February onwards and the on-line version will be available from June 2012.

Members will be required to complete the course:

  • within one year of qualification; or
  • between the 4th and 6th anniversaries of their admission to the Profession, whichever comes first.

Transitional arrangements will be publicised in due course. Initially, members admitted to the Profession on or after 1 July 2006 who:

  • have not qualified as a Fellow by 1 July 2011;
  • have not transferred to the category of Associate by 1 July 2011; or
  • have qualified as a Fellow by 1 July 2011 but who do have not attended the current 2-day New Fellows Professionalism Course by end December 2011,

will be required to undertake the new Professional Skills Course.

Until further transitional arrangements are publicised, members admitted to the Profession before 1 July 2006 will be required to undertake the new Skills Course only if they have not yet and subsequently do qualify as a Fellow. They must take the Course within one year of qualification.

Details of course dates will be published on the website in December.
