The Emerging Risks working party has been considering emerging risks in the core actuarial fields of insurance, pensions and investments.

Key objectives:

The key areas of focus were:

  • The identification of emerging risks
  • The monitoring and management of emerging risks
  • The communication of emerging risks

Outputs:

In addition to the above deliverables, the working party has conducted a detailed review of existing material and given presentations to a number of industry groups, gathering feedback on what the industry needs in relation to emerging risks.

Next steps for the working party:

The working party was looking to bring the existing work together by producing a paper setting out a framework in relation to emerging risks, which can provide guidance to the industry.  Unfortunately, the paper could not be finalised due to the closure of the working party and is therefore incomplete. However, it represents the culmination of a lot of good work which members may find useful as background information.
