In March 2008 the Social Policy Board ceased to exist. Since the Board's demise, its public interest activities have passed over to the Public Affairs Advisory Committee in conjunction with several of the former Board's groups that have now become Member Interest Groups.

Work in the area of health and care has been taken over by the Health and Care Practice Executive Committee.

During its lifetime the Board aimed to:

Provide input to Government on the development of social policy, wherever actuaries have a contribution to make.

Increase the profession's involvement in social issues of public interest and make its voice heard.

Raise the profile of actuaries employed in health, long term care, personal finance and other societal areas by:
