Disciplinary appointments committee vacancies

Our disciplinary schemes depend on the knowledge and expertise of the people who volunteer their services.

We have vacancies for people to be part of and contribute to our disciplinary schemes in three roles.

Investigation actuaries are:

  • responsible for investigating complaints
  • selected from the pool of investigation actuaries, whose members are appointed by the disciplinary appointments committee

Actuary members are:

  •  required to help decide the outcomes of complaints
  • appointed to panels that deal with adjudications, interim orders, disciplinary tribunals and appeal tribunals
  • selected from the standing disciplinary pool, appointed by the disciplinary appointments committee

Lay members are:

  • not actuaries
  • selected from the standing disciplinary pool, appointed by the disciplinary appointments committee

The Profession's indemnity covers actuaries and lay people acting under the disciplinary schemes. We post vacancies for actuaries and lay people to be part of and contribute to our disciplinary schemes on this page as and when a vacancy arises. We advertise externally when we recruit staff to carry out investigations directed by investigation actuaries.

Volunteers for the Pool of Investigation Actuaries

The Pool of Investigation Actuaries is a group of experienced professional people who are called upon to assist with the technical aspects of allegations of professional misconduct against members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. The Actuarial Profession is currently seeking additional volunteers to be appointed to this Pool.

Allegations about professional misconduct against members are dealt with under the terms of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Disciplinary Scheme.  An investigation team is appointed to each allegation.  This comprises a Case Manager, who is a member of the Profession’s staff, an Investigation Actuary and an appointed external solicitor.  For each case, the Investigation Actuary is chosen from the Pool of Investigation Actuaries based on their experience, location and area of specialism.

The principal role of the Investigation Actuary is to identify and address the actuarial/technical issues within the allegation and provide technical support to the Case Manager.  The time commitment depends on the complexities of the case and whether it is dealt with at the Adjudication stage or goes forward to a full Tribunal hearing.  This will be discussed with the Investigation Actuary prior to appointment.  Further information about the role can be found in the detailed job specification .
