We have written standards for examination centres [pdf]. (The minimum standards documents for home and overseas centres do not materially differ from each other.) We also have instructions for invigilators [pdf]. Both these documents describe best practice for these aspects of the examination process. It is sometimes difficult to ensure that all aspects are fully complied with, but there is an examination supervisor for each centre who aims to achieve best practice.
Forms should be available at each examination on which students may make general comments if they wish. Where a candidate believes the conditions under which they took their examination may have adversely affected their performance, they should write immediately to the Examinations Office at Napier House, who will ensure the examiners are able to take this into consideration. General disturbances, for example, excessive background noise, will be reported by the invigilator and need not be reported by candidates. The feedback we receive from students about examination centres and invigilation is very valuable as it helps inform minimum standards and practice.
