Exemptions FAQs

I am a student of the Actuarial Profession and have attended a university which has an exemption agreement with you. How can I get my exemptions?

To apply for exemptions you will need to complete an application form and send it to

The Exemptions Officer
The Actuarial Profession

OXFORD OX1 2AW

Your application should include evidence that you have completed your degree, a copy of the transcript of your marks, and copies of any exemption recommendation letter(s) you have received from your university. The copies must be certified copies signed by your employer, who should be an actuary.

I am a student of the Actuarial Profession and have attended a university which is not on the list. Can I still apply for exemptions?

To apply for exemptions you will need to complete an application form and send it to the Exemptions Officer as above.

Your application should include copies of the syllabuses of the modules you studied, copies of the exam papers you sat, and a copy of the transcript of your marks. The transcript must be a certified copy signed by your employer, who should be an actuary. Your qualifications will then be assessed by our Exemptions Committee to establish to what extent they cover our syllabus and you will be informed in writing whether you have been given any exemptions.

I am not a student of the Actuarial Profession in the UK. Although I studied in the UK, I am a citizen of a country which has an overseas rate for exemptions

To be eligible for exemptions, you must be a student of the Actuarial Profession. For further information contact membership@actuaries.org.uk

To be eligible for reduced rates for exemptions and other fees you must be permanently resident and working in one of the countries on the list below. There are no other reduced rates available for exemptions.

I would like to become an actuary and I am currently deciding which university to apply for. Which courses do you recommend?

We are unable to advise you on the course options you need to take. Our best advice is to take the subjects where your abilities are the strongest, as actuarial employers are looking for a minimum 2.1 in a numerical degree.

If you would like further information on becoming an actuary or employer information, please contact careers@actuaries.org.uk
