Information for non-UK students

These notes apply if you are not a UK-based student.

When you must take the CA2 Model Documentation, Analysis and Reporting module

In principle, you can take the CA2 Model Documentation, Analysis and Reporting module ('Module') when you and your employer agree you are ready, and you need not take it until you are close to qualification as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries or the Institute of Actuaries (unless the actuarial society in the country where you work requires you to take it earlier).

You are strongly recommended to take the Module after you have seriously attempted the Core Technical subjects, CT1-CT8, and have one year's work experience and approval from your employer. You should bear in mind that the examination assignment can draw on material from CT1-CT8.

Better candidates are those who have experience of communicating technical material to peer and senior colleagues. Hence, students may wish to wait until they have tackled CA3 or CA1 before taking this module.

Where you must attend the two-day course

You are expected to attend the two-day course in the UK or in the country where you work if a course is available in that country. Some local actuarial associations are offering these courses.

If you complete the Module by attending a course outside the UK you will need to apply to the Institute and Faculty for an exemption from CA2. A fee will be charged for this, the amount being the same as for other CA subjects.

Countries where courses are being run, are as follows:

  • Ireland
  • India
  • Malaysia
  • South Africa
  • Singapore
  • Other venues proposed include: China; Australia/New Zealand (subject to demand)

If you want to ask any questions about the courses in these countries, please send an e-mail to the appropriate address, as follows:

If courses are not run in your country, you are strongly encouraged to attend one in the UK or in one of the other countries where courses will be run. If taking the course in another country is not feasible for you, you must take the distance learning course.

Distance learning if you cannot attend a course

If you live or work in a country that does not run courses, and it is not feasible for you to take the course in another country, you will be required to take the Distance Learning version of the course.
