Business Awareness Module. Information for non-UK students

These notes apply if you are not a UK-based student

When you must take the Business Awareness Module

In principle, you need not take the Business Awareness Module ('Module'), until you are close to qualification as an Associate or Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries or Institute of Actuaries, unless the actuarial society in the country where you work requires you to take it earlier. This is different to the situation for UK based students who are expected to take the Module within 18 months of joining The Actuarial Profession.

Where you must attend the two-day course

You must attend the two-day course in the country where you work if a course is available in that country. Countries where courses are held are India, Ireland and South Africa. If you want to ask any questions about the arrangements in these countries, please send an e-mail to the appropriate address, as follows:

If you complete the Module successfully by attending a course in India or South Africa you will need to apply to the Institute and Faculty for an exemption from CT9. A fee will be charged for this, the amount being the same as for other CT subjects. Students in India should be aware that the UK Actuarial Profession has not yet given exemption status to this exam in India.

Distance learning if you cannot attend a course

If you live or work in a country that does not run courses, and it is not feasible for you to take the course in another country, you will be required to take the distance learning version of the course.
