What are wider fields?
Nick Silver, Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), defines wider fields as:
Anything outside the traditional fields ... you are only limited by your imagination.
... For the profession to thrive .... we need to get into many other fields. There is a huge need for actuaries to advise people in many different areas.
Another Fellow, Philip Booth, urges members to:
.... make sure you look outside the box and find ways to become familiar with the area of work in which you are interested and build contacts.
