Professor Zhigang Xie is Professor of Insurance and Actuarial Studies, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE)

 Professor Zhigang XieThrough his role as Director of the Research Center for Insurance and Actuarial Science at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), Professor Xie has played a key role in promoting the actuarial profession in China and supporting the education of actuaries of the future.  Professor Xie was an early advocate of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' (IFoA’s) examinations in China, with many of his former students now Fellows of the IFoA. 

Professor Xie joined SUFE in 1996, after completing his PhD at the University of Leeds.  Since 1997, he has led the actuarial studies program at SUFE and established an ongoing relationship with the IFoA through its education activities.  His main research and teaching is in the area of risk and solvency management for insurance companies. 

Professor Xie is also the editor of The Actuarial Communications, Journal of Actuarial Committee of Shanghai Insurance Institute, which is currently the sole actuarial journal in China and has significant influence in the development of Chinese actuarial education, research and the profession. 

A Fellow and Board member of China Association of Actuaries (CAA), Professor Xie is an influential and respected figure in the Chinese actuarial community.   He is active in international academic circles, presenting at many actuarial conferences and seminars around the world.  He also works as a senior consultant and external independent director to the insurance industry.

The IFoA hopes to continue to build on its relationship with Professor Xie for both actuarial education and its global research agenda.
