This presentation aims to provides an overview of the reformation of current Chinese regulatory solvency regime, how industry coping with the new normal after pandemic time and how the reformation of the regulation could help the insurance industry gets back on its feet as well as coming back to the “protection” core value for the policyholders. The presentation would include:

  • The major changes C-Ross phase II and its regulatory intention.
  • What happens with market risks, life and non-life insurance risks and credit risk assessments.
  • Potential impact on the insurance industry for the post pandemic time.
  • The new normal game rules for both foreign investors and domestic stakeholders?

This session will be of interest to members/non-members internationally. Those in the solvency regulation area and those who want to enter the Chinese market and seeking equivalence may be interested.

Speakers: 

Cynthia Yuan, ChinaRe

Cynthia is the senior risk manager of China Re group. She has twenty years’ experience in insurance industry mostly in GI area. She was educated in UK and worked for Watson Wyatt, Gen Re and Sargicor at Lloyd (now Amtrust) for many years before she came back to China. She has acted many senior roles like Chief Actuary, CFO for Sunshine insurance group, Fosun insurance now she is the senior risk manager in China Re Group. Cynthia has bountiful experience in actuarial field both in UK and China, ranging from areas of pricing, reserving, catastrophe modeling, capital modeling, asset liability managing. She has established the first economic capital model for China Re group. Cynthia also act as adviser for CBIRC on C-Ross and Asset Liability management regulation board. She is fully qualified fellow of IFoA and is also an elected council member for the profession.

Sherwin Li, Chief Actuary, Head of Actuarial and IDEA Analytics, China Re P&C

Mr. Xiaoxuan (Sherwin) Li is currently the Chief Actuary and the Head of Actuarial and IDEA Analytics team of China Re P&C, responsible for all the actuarial and analytical works in the company, including insurance pricing, reserving, catastrophe modeling, capital/solvency modelling. He has over fifteen years’ experience in insurance industry. Before joining the actuarial function, he had ever worked in underwriting teams for over five years. In addition, he ever worked in London, UK for less than a year.

Mr. Xiaoxuan (Sherwin) Li is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, a Fellow of China Association of Actuaries and a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. He is also an Associate of Reinsurance Administration, a Certified Catastrophe Risk Analyst (CCRA) and a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). He graduated from Nankai University (China) with a master’s degree in actuarial science.
