The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) published the consultation on Friday 28 November 2014, on the proposed introduction of a mandatory Actuarial Profession Standard (APS) and supporting guides in relation to trust-based pre-paid funeral plans work.
The proposed APS (APS Z1) is designed to address concerns regarding actuaries’ involvement with pre-paid funeral plan trusts. The APS, guides (for actuaries and trustees) and additional professional support provision are intended to help ensure that members working in this specialist area are sufficiently experienced for the task, that they are aware of their particular responsibilities and that they are appropriately supported and assisted by the IFoA in undertaking their work.
