The actuarial profession has much to offer the world of banking. In this webinar actuaries with experience in various fields of banking will talk about the opportunities there are in banking; describing the actuarial aspects of the work they do as well as other roles within their area of banking. They will share their experiences of how they got into banking as well as give their thoughts on how actuaries can enter the banking profession. You will also gain an insight into the inroads the actuarial profession has made into banking on an international basis. Dick Rae will moderate a discussion, providing you with an opportunity to ask questions.

Dick Rae, Chair of the Finance and Investment Board and Chair of the recently re-formed Banking Member Interest Group

Dick spent 15 years in investment banking having worked at JP Morgan, Deutsche Bank and HSBC, before moving into asset management with BMO Global Asset Management. Prior to that Dick spent 20 years in insurance and Reinsurance. It was whilst he was at Swiss Re that he first got his taste of the capital markets.

 

Colm Kelly, Executive Director & Co-Head of European Insurance at UBS Investment Bank 

Executive Director & Co-Head of European Insurance at UBS Investment Bank, Colm is an actuary in investment banking leading equity research coverage of the European Life Insurance sector including detailed research on Solvency II, Balance Sheets and Credit Risk. Involves managing a team to provide investment analysis, valuation and investment recommendations on life insurance companies to a range of clients globally. Clients mainly include insurance company shareholders, asset managers, hedge funds and private equity firms.

 

Michael Tichareva covering South Africa and the work of the International Actuarial Association’s Banking Working Group

Michael is the Managing Director and Principal of National Standard Finance Africa, and affiliate of the US based National Standard Finance, LLC having co-founded and formalised the operations in 2014. In addition to strategic and day to day operational management, he is involved in the origination and structuring of sovereign, sub-sovereign and private sector infrastructure & real estate deals across Africa with a strong focus on developmental finance to improve quality of lives of people. Michael has worked in various roles in financial services over the past 20 years in Zimbabwe, the UK and South Africa, including at Nedbank, one of the big 4 South African Banks.

Michael also works as an independent banking actuary who leads a team of actuarial professionals in delivering banking consulting assignments that include among others IFRS 9 expected credit loss modelling and credit scorecard development for banks. Michael engages in a wide range of banking related assignments as he works to expand actuarial practice in banking. He currently leads at a global level in developing banking practice for actuaries and continues to present at various international platforms on the involvement of actuaries in banking practice.

 

Mahidhara Davangere covering India and other international developments

Currently the Founder and Managing Director of Pramartha – an Actuarial Risk Management and Consulting firm Head quartered in Bangalore, India with offices in Malaysia, South Africa, UAE, and US. Mahidhara focuses on the wider applications of Actuarial Science like Data Science, Analytics Finance and Investment. He has been advising Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors on exit planning using various actuarial risk modeling techniques. Prior to this he has over 14 years of experience in Research and financial valuation covering industries like Banking, Insurance and financial sectors across India, Australia South Africa and other emerging African markets.
