The IFoA’s Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) is convening a research event on the subject of Periodical Payment Orders (PPOs) in late February 2019.
The IFoA recently agreed to commission an independent feasibility study into the potential development of mortality tables of impaired lives who have suffered the types of traumatic injury (brain and/or spinal injury) that give rise to PPO awards. It is expected that these tables would become a crucial reference point when considering the future mortality rates likely to be experienced by PPO recipients, allowing the insurance industry to better manage their associated liabilities.
At the event we’ll be looking for an open discussion between industry experts, insurers, healthcare providers and academics who specialise in the development of such data to help us refine the challenges that would be faced in developing mortality tables for PPOs, and the potential solutions available. This will allow us to refine the scope of our ‘call for tender’.
Given the relevance of this research for industry, we’re also keen to deliver this leading-edge ARC project in partnership with interested parties. Please note that this ARC commissioned feasibility study is about developing impaired life mortality tables for people who have suffered brain or spinal injuries following a severe trauma, and its scope is not limited to General Insurance application.
Who should participate?
As PPOs are one of the most challenging and interesting insurance issues at the present time, we’re looking for leading stakeholders from across business, academia and the profession to participate in this event.
We’re especially interested in hearing from insurers, re-insurers and the NHS and other healthcare providers.
