If you are a Fellow or Associate of the IFoA and want to make your mark on the global actuarial profession, you should consider applying to join our Council. As a member of Council you will help to set the strategic direction of the IFoA and deliver the IFoA’s public interest objective. Becoming a Council member offers a valuable opportunity to develop your skills, experience and networks and to bring your unique insight and knowledge to shape the future of the actuarial profession.

Who can stand for election to Council?

You must be a Fellow or Associate of the IFoA if you want to stand for election.

We are keen that Council reflects the diversity of our membership. With half of our membership based outside the UK, we’d particularly like to encourage members based outside the UK to stand for Council. Having strong UK and international representation will help Council rise to the particular strategic challenges that lie ahead.

What’s involved?

You will need to submit a nomination and biography and be supported by one proposer and one seconder. You can find details about the process on our dedicated nominations website

If elected, your appointment would start on 27 June 2019 and would normally run for three years. You will be expected to regularly take part in Council meetings in London, one or two regional meetings and one internationally. While members of Council are encouraged to attend all meetings in person, we recognise that this may not always be possible and, at such times, you will be expected to attend by the most practicable means.

Nominations are now open

Further information about the application process and what’s involved in being a Council member can be found on our nominations website.

Your nomination for election to Council must be received by 16:00 (BST) on 07 May 2019.
