Voting members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) are called upon to vote on the election of the following individuals as Honorary Fellows nominated in 2019. These nominees are held by Council to have given service to the actuarial profession, directly or through achievements in related fields.

How to vote

Voting is conducted independently by Civica, and this year’s vote has been combined with the Council election. Voting members will receive access codes directly from Civica by email on Monday 11 May. If you do not receive an email, contact the IFoA’s Corporate Secretary, James Harrigan.

The ballot is open 24 hours a day and closes on Thursday 11 June at 13.00 BST.

The results of the votes will be announced at the IFoA’s Annual General Meeting, which will be held by webinar at 12.00 BST on Monday 15 June. Book your place

Nominee profiles

This year, two individuals have been endorsed by Council:

Dr Amlan Roy

Dr Amlan RoyDr Amlan Roy has been nominated for Honorary Fellowship of the IFoA in recognition of his thought leadership in the field of demographics, which has had a significant impact on pension systems.

Amlan is Head of Global Macro Policy Research and Senior MD at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), based in London. He focuses on big-picture research in macroeconomics, policy and politics, retirement and demographics, serving clients of State Street Group and leading a small team of researchers.

Prior to SSGA, he was Head of Global Demographics & Pensions Research and Managing Director at Credit Suisse. At Credit Suisse, Amlan was a global client facing researcher and developed global risk and asset allocation models as an expert on financial system architecture and crises models. His research on global demographics and pensions is used by policy makers and investors.

Amlan spent over a decade in academia with a distinguished teaching career in the US and the UK. He was UK ESRC Research Fellow, Ponders Fellow, a Boston University Doctoral Scholar and a Government of India National Scholar. Amlan has a PhD and an MA in Financial Economics from the University of Iowa, an MBA from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and a BA Honours in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.

Paul Johnson

Paul JohnsonPaul Johnson has been nominated for Honorary Fellowship of the IFoA in recognition of his extensive body of work on the economics of public policy, with a particular focus on income distribution, public finances, pensions, tax, social security, education and climate change.

Paul has been director of the Institute for Fiscal Studies since January 2011. He is a columnist for The Times. He is currently a member of the UK Climate Change Committee, and of the Banking Standards Board.

He was previously chief economist at the Department for Education and director of public spending at HM Treasury, where he also served as deputy head of the Government Economic Service.

Paul was appointed CBE in the 2018 birthday honours. He was a member of the winning Keble college Oxford team in the 2017/18 Christmas University Challenge series.
