The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) is delighted to announce that its prestigious Quality Assurance Scheme (QAS) accreditation was awarded to Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services on 1 February 2021. This represents a second membership of the scheme in Africa, accrediting those who have met the QAS standards.

The global accreditation scheme recognises an organisational culture which supports the provision of high quality actuarial work.  It has been awarded to Kenbright in recognition of their commitment to providing a working environment which values the technical skills and the professionalism of its actuarial team.

QAS accredited its first members in April 2016 and approximately 15% of the IFoA’s global membership collaborate with a QAS accredited organisation, giving a total of 42 accredited organisations worldwide.

"The Board and Management at Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services is very proud to have received this prestigious accreditation from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. This is a significant milestone for our company and the employers of actuaries in our region – East Africa. This accreditation will provide a framework for our actuaries to fulfil their professional responsibilities and deliver high quality actuarial work. We will also strive to achieve the objectives of the QAS, which include promotion of quality assurance at Kenbright, ensuring that we use the QAS as a mechanism to identify issues that may affect the quality of actuarial work undertaken and promote confidence in the work that actuaries at Kenbright undertake. We believe that QAS accreditation will support our journey of becoming the employer of choice for individuals pursuing an actuarial career."

Ezekiel Macharia FIA, Chief Actuary & CEO, Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services

"We are delighted to welcome Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services to the IFoA’s Quality Assurance Scheme (QAS) in recognition of their commitment to the delivery of high quality actuarial work. We are particularly pleased in this case because Kenbright is the first organisation to have its accreditation assessment carried out remotely, with the assessors based in the UK and Kenbright based in Kenya. QAS accreditation assures that an organisation has met our five outcome standards:  quality assurance (including work review), conflicts of interest, development and training of actuarial staff, speaking up about matters that cause concern and relationships with service users. This is of great importance to any organisation carrying out actuarial work because QAS accreditation demonstrates their commitment to providing a working environment where their actuarial employees can flourish."

Stephen Mann, Chief Executive, IFoA

About the QAS

The QAS is a recognised mark of excellence for organisations world-wide; providing benefits that range from boosting external perspectives of actuarial employers, more streamlined and efficient regulation and demonstrating a commitment to learning, development and continuous improvement. Quality assurance is key in maintaining public confidence in an organisation, as well as the actuarial profession in general.

The QAS is open to organisations employing one or more IFoA members and is available globally.
