We are delighted to announce that the launch of our newly formed Indian Actuarial Network UK (IANUK) took place yesterday the 2 December. The launch event was held in the members’ lounge of the IFoA London Office, where members of the new IANUK committee were joined by President-elect Fiona Morrison, Membership Director Memoria Lewis and members of the Indian actuarial community to mark the launch of this new group.

Along with the opportunity for members to network and meet other members of IANUK, Elliot Varnell gave a talk on Risk Culture and Risk Management as part of the programme. The presentation explored risk culture in the life industry and how this affects the risk management of firms within the industry, drawing on lessons from Anthropology, Psychology and Neurology, and considering what lessons these disciplines can provide in terms of what good risk culture looks like.

IANUK has been formed to provide a global network that facilitates knowledge sharing and that provides guidance and support, on both a formal and informal basis, to help the continuous development of actuarial professionals of Indian origin.

Ravi Dubey, President of the new Indian Actuarial Network UK, talks about his reasons for setting this new group up.

"When I came to the UK about 10 years ago I had no friends or family. For some time every evening was spent on my own, and there was no one whom I could talk to about my actuarial studies or an actuarial career in the UK. There were a lot of online resources available, but talking to someone face to face is different

Not all those who come to UK are in similar position but possibly some will be! This is my motivation for setting up this network. The aim of Indian Actuarial Network (IANUK) is to provide a dedicated networking platform for Actuarial professionals of Indian origin. Our aim is to provide support and advice to actuarial students through our qualified members by organising various academic and social events.

We plan to promote the interests of Indian actuaries working in different locations by sharing their professional and educational experiences. And we aim to provide qualified members with the opportunity to meet other talented and dynamic minds in the profession and to fulfil their CPD requirements in the process."
