You are here

The IFoA is undertaking its first all-member survey since 2011.

IFoA President Elect John Taylor explains why you should take advantage of this opportunity to make your voice heard.

As a member of Council, I have been lucky enough to meet a number of our members from across the globe at IFoA events. I find it incredibly valuable to hear directly from you, our members, about your hopes and fears for our profession, the challenges you face and how well you think we are equipping you to face these challenges.

Many of my fellow Council members also spend much of their time speaking with members, and much as we would like to speak to all 32,000 of you directly, it simply isn't John Taylorpossible in a reasonable timeframe. So we are doing the next best thing by commissioning an all-member survey. We want to hear the views, positive and negative, of as many of you as possible to help us understand the value of IFoA membership and ensure that we’re delivering what you want and need to excel in your studies and in your job.

We would urge you to take this opportunity to collaborate with us in shaping the future direction of our professional body. We want to better understand what you need and expect from the IFoA, now and in the future. To capture both breadth and depth of views, we are undertaking a programme of qualitative and quantitative research. The first stage of the research programme will involve inviting all IFoA members to take part in an online survey, to ensure we are as inclusive and accessible as possible.

We last undertook an all-member survey back in 2011. Our membership has changed a great deal in the intervening years, as has our profession. The online survey will help us to understand whether we are meeting your needs and offering you value, whatever your career stage and wherever you are based in the world.

Member survey opens 28 November: register your interest

The online all-member survey will open on 28 November and run until 21 December 2018. This will be followed by telephone and focus group research in the New Year to explore issues highlighted by the online survey in greater depth. If you are interested in being involved in this second phase of research, you can register your interest when you complete the online survey or you can contact membersurvey@actuaries.org.uk.

We will use the findings of the research to help us shape our future strategic planning, focus our resources and develop services in the areas that are the most important to you. We want to equip all of our members with the right tools to face the challenges thrown up by a rapidly changing employment landscape.

The IFoA is your professional body and we want you to have your say on the issues that are most important to you. This is a rare opportunity to tell us what you value, and we would like as many of you as possible to take part.  As nice as it is to hear where we are doing well, we want you to be honest. This survey is also an opportunity for you to let us know where we could be doing more and where you feel we are not delivering value.

Look out for your email invitation, with your personalised link to take part in our 2018 Members Survey. If you haven’t received your email on 28 November please contact membersurvey@actuaries.org.uk.
