After a rigorous selection process, we’re delighted to announce that the IFoA’s Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) has awarded a grant to support a significant behavioural finance research programme; specifically focusing on decision-making by institutional investors.

Health and Care Board – new research proposal

The Health and Care Board are considering a new research project on Income Protection, to enable a better understanding of the UK Income Protection market, and the current (and possible) future issues presented by the reduction in state benefits for some customers who have private IP provisions. A research scope is currently bring put together and the board will be approaching the IFoA research and Thought Leadership Board to bid for funding for the project.
Oral evidence session on the funding of long-term care

Following our consultation submission earlier this year, the IFoA has been invited to provide oral evidence to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee and the Health Committee as part of their joint inquiry on the funding of long-term care.
Jules Constantinou appeared before the Committees on 24 April to discuss ways of balancing State and personal funding to meet the challenges of an increasing population ageing.
Increasingly popular actuarial career route

Graduates who apply for work in the actuarial profession has risen by 9.1%, according to a newly published report.
The UK Graduate Careers Survey 2018, produced by High Fliers Research, is the largest annual survey of final year students at the UK’s leading universities.
In the report, actuarial work has risen by 9.1% compared to the same time last year. It is within the top three professions which has had an influx of applications from ‘transport and logistics’ and ‘technology’.

Whether it’s attending a flagship IFoA Conference, a training event or taking part in an online webinar – events are a great way to meet your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.
If you are in CPD categories 1, 2 and 4 you are required to complete a certain number of CPD hours at external events. These can include any training or development activity which exposes you to an exchange of viewpoints and includes individuals from outside your own organisation.
