Sustainable finance: The event will explore the contribution finance makes and can make to social and environmental sustainability.

 

 

We will discuss the relationship between finance and sustainability and how the decision-making processes within finance, including the part played by actuaries, indirectly impacts society and the environment. The event will cover how sustainability issues are being integrated into the investment process in practice.

The event will also discuss the opportunities and risks involved from the changing financial landscape brought about by technology.

Meryam Omi, Head of Sustainability at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), has been named as a ‘Rising Star of Corporate Governance’ by the eminent Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership at the Columbia Law School, South Carolina. The award, presented at the 10th annual Millstein Governance Forum, recognises global corporate governance professionals who are making their mark as outstanding analysts, experts, directors, managers or advocates. The selection process was based on criteria such as past accomplishments and thought leadership, future projects and endeavours, leadership and character, and potential to influence the industry.

Omi’s recognition follows just a week after LGIM’s 10-strong Corporate Governance team received the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) inaugural award of ‘Best Investor Engagement’ for 2015.

Vera Hegarty - Vera Hegarty of BNP Paribas Asset Management. Vera is responsible for Institutional investment clients where there is often a natural alignment of the sustainability of investments with longer-term investment horizons. BNP Paribas Asset Management is a founding signatory of the United Nations-backed Principles for Responsible Investing.
