Desmond HudsonDesmond Hudson is the Interim Executive Director of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Previously, Des served the IFoA as Chair of its Regulation Board, completing two terms in the role in June 2019. He also currently holds a number of non-executive director roles, including Chair of the Wrekin Housing Group, a housing association based in the West Midlands; Chair of the Nominations Committee for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS); Chair of the Taxation Disciplinary Board; and Chair of a small charity based in Wales, focussing on support for families and children.

This follows a career first as a lawyer in private practice. Des qualified as a Solicitor in 1980, after earning an LLB from the University of Leeds in 1977, and completing law school as a National Prize winner in the Law Society examinations. He later practiced as a General Counsel in financial services, from which he moved into general management before becoming an Executive Director of a FTSE-quoted media company. He then served as CEO of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), as well as Chief Executive of the Law Society of England and Wales from 2006 to 2015.

He is married with three sons.
