Data Science Working Party - Membership

The objectives of the Membership Work Stream are to distribute data-science-related content to the membership of the IFoA through relevant channels, identify appropriate channels of communication, prepare a pool of able speakers to present on data science topics at relevant events and coordinate the Working Party's presence at data science events.

The work stream is discussing the pros and cons of options for membership communication (inline with existing IFoA policies and procedures):

Events 

  • Members of the work stream have responsibility for checking certain websites for relevant events once a week - (e.g. IFoA, NoCA, RSS, BrightTALK, KD Nuggets)
  • Collate event details in a centralised list, from which notification updates can be generated semi-automatically
  • Notify Working Party members of opportunities for speakers to contribute
  • Support Working Party member attendees in reviewing events, and publish reviews

    In this webinar, we have two presentations showing the latest research on the implications for life and health insurers of two key issues: genomics and pandemic risk.

    Dr Peter Joshi and Paul Timmers will share their research on how well-established underwriting processes can allow for genomics in predicting expected mortality and morbidity. They will then discuss the potential for stratified screening and personalised medicine to improve health and reduce claim costs.
