The objectives of the Regulation and Ethics Work Stream are to consider the impact of regulation and ethics on the use of data science by actuaries; promote external stakeholder awareness of, and confidence in, the work of actuaries who use the techniques of data science in their work; consider how actuaries can leverage actuarial guidance and regulation to achieve beneficial outcomes when undertaking data science work; provide resources to support actuaries working in the field of data science; and identify emerging ethical issues in this field that could impact the profession and its members.

Overview of initial tasks

1. Create and collate resources to help actuaries think about ethical principles that apply to data science work:
1.1. Provide actuaries with a range of resources to start springboarding their thinking about how ethics impacts data science

2. Impact of actuarial regulation on data science work:
2.1. How actuarial regulation applies to data science work and how actuarial regulation can help actuaries achieve better outcomes for customers/clients

3. Considering fairness as a key ethical principle of data science:
3.1. Support actuaries to think about fairness as a key ethical principle of actuarial data science work. Use case studies/examples to illustrate factors that should be considered
