The Peril Based Reserving Working Party is developing a universal framework for capturing the emergence and development of insurance claims, primarily with a view to developing more granular reserving methods and comparing their performance against existing techniques
The objectives of the Peril Based Reserving Working Party are to:
- capture and express the ‘peril-based’ framework for the emergence of risk, the manifestation of claims and their settlement
- apply this framework to the analysis of claims (e.g. exposure, causality and emergence of losses, settlement ‘pathways’, including recoveries and re-opening of claims)
- apply and evaluate the effectiveness of more granular reserving methods to claims and transaction level data
- enhance links between reserving methods and pricing and capital assessments.
