This working party will look at the impact of capital requirements under Solvency II, and if these relate to (UK) protection and investment insurance products. It will also investigate whether the current post-financial crisis low interest environment is causing changes in the way consumers evaluate the products that meet their needs
The IFoA would like to produce research and comment that highlights these impacts. The focus is on investment orientated products including (personal) pensions and ISAs.
Key objectives:
- Desk based research into the key themes, products and issues
- Interviews with key market commentators
- Modelling of generic product performance 2005-2025
- Survey of life office product practitioners
- Primary consumer research into product expectations and product maturity experience survey (online, written and/or interview) information from key UK insurers on the impact of pricing, terms and conditions and sales of key products
- Analysis of ABI and other market data on the trends in sales of impacted products
- Examples of analytical work to demonstrate the impact of Solvency II facets on pricing.
Key outputs:
- A presentation at Life Conference 2017
- A sessional meeting on 5 March 2018
- A final report is awaited.
