This Research Working Party will consider the wider macroeconomic implications of retirement savings.

The group will consider the impact of current trends in retirement provision, including the consequences for wider economic policy, investment markets and the social implications. In particular, to consider (but not exclusively limited to):

  • The shift from investment in the growth economy to investment in government debt
  • The trend of lower relative retirement savings
  • The move from paternalism to individualism, and consequences for social security
  • Changing work patterns to allow for the phased dissolution of the retirement concept
  • The social impact of multiple retirement systems providing differing levels of rewards for the population.
