Each year there are two opportunities to sit each of these exams: in April and in September/October.
If you wish to sit a session based exam, you need to enter within the registration period. We have exam centres in the UK and worldwide and the closing date for the exam entries will depend on the location of the centre.
Exam entry for the September 2018 exams will open on 16 July

Each exam centre, and also the online CA2 and CP3 exams, has a set capacity and can get fully booked before the closing date. Therefore, we suggest you book early to ensure you get the exam place you are hoping for.
Qualified members of the IFoA who are taking additional subjects, such as ST9, can log in to make online exam entries when exam entry is open.
Non-members sitting the CT3 exam can also book their exam online
If you are sitting an exam as a non-member for the first time you will need to give us your details, and so you will need to complete an Online registration form (only available during the exam entry period). You will then receive an email giving you your Actuarial Reference Number (ARN), and telling you how to log in to your online account and how to enter for your CT3 exam.
If you already have an ARN (from a previous exam session) you do not need to re-register your details. You can log in to enter for the exam straightaway, while exam entry is open.
Ways to pay, for all exam entries
Since 1 March 2016 if you have paid the reduced membership fee you are eligible to pay the reduced exam fee. You need to have paid for, or had your application accepted for, the reduced membership fee before you can book your exams at the reduced fees. Otherwise you will be charged the full exam fees and no refunds will be given.
If you are paying by card for your exams you will need to log in to your account and book online. You will benefit from:
- up to the minute knowledge of centre availability
- immediate confirmation of your entry, and confirmation of your payment.
If you wish to pay by bank transfer or by cheque, the forms you need to use are available below:
- to pay by bank transfer: complete an entry form and return it by post or email to Education Services with your remittance advice
- to pay by cheque: complete an entry form and post it to Education Services with your cheque.
The timetable for session based exams up until 2020 has been published to give you time to plan your study route
When setting the timetable we review religious and international public holidays to minimise disruption to you.
We know that we are not able to supply a timetable that will suit all candidates, but we hope that by advertising the dates early you can plan your exam sittings in a way that suits you best.
Changing your session based exam booking
If you wish to make changes to your exam booking we may be able to do this for you, but any changes must be made before the exam entry closing date.
