Professional Skills for Experienced Members

As a student there is a requirement for you to complete two hours of professional, ethical training between 1 July and 30 June each year

To help you fulfil this requirement, we have developed a number of short video case studies which are designed to bring the Actuaries' Code to life by illustrating challenges which can arise in your daily personal and/or professional life

You could also use your own in-house resources, or relevant external events.

See the IFoA's case studies and other resources

The Stage 3 Professional skills training (PST) requirement applies to:

  • Students who joined the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries before 1 July 2006
  • Students who joined the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries on or after 1 July 2006 and who have completed Stage 2 PSC.

You must record this on your CPD record in your 'My Account' area of the website

This should be a record of the two hours of professional skills training you complete each year, and must include a learning outcome so that we can verify that you have met this requirement.

All members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) are required, under the Actuaries' Code, to maintain their professional competence by undertaking Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Student members have been placed in CPD Category 5: this means that your CPD requirement is limited to the professional skills training shown above, and you do not need to complete any technical learning.

Full details about the IFoA's Professional Skills Training requirements are set out in the CPD Scheme 2017/2018
