Introduction to Wen Li

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries welcomes its first lead representative in China and the south-east Asia region. Around one-third of the IFoA’s 12,000 Fellows and over half of its 12,000 students are based outside the UK. With the Asia-Pacific insurance premium to double by 2020, and China being the top growth country in the region, there is a fast-growing number of students and actuaries in China and south-east Asia. It is therefore an area where IFoA wants to increase its influence, show its full support to the members in the region and cover the broad spectrum of policy issues and engage on public affairs activities in the region.

The newly appointed representative – Wen Li is a new staff actuary to the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Wen has worked as a technical actuary for the past 12 years. Before joining the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, she worked as a life actuary in Beijing for two and half years.  Wen started her first actuarial career with the UK insurance company Legal & General in Kingswood, Surrey; later on she moved to work for Prudential Plc based in London. She has also held roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Government Statistical Office in the UK. As the lead representative in China and south-east Asia, Wen will be based in Beijing and Hong Kong. In addition, she will look after Institute and Faculty of Actuaries interests in Singapore and Malaysia. Her immediate priorities include developing links with universities in the region; encourage a vibrant member community as well as seeking opportunities to build links with employers and local regulators. In the medium to long run, she will also ensure the strategy of “proactive engagement” is delivered through member support, education, regulation, and technical influence, as well as knowledge transfer.
